This is one of the most enchanting treks in the picturesque Kullu valley. We’ll walk through forests of pine, deodar and rhododendron, lush green valleys, remote villages and meadows overlooked by the mighty Malana glacier. All these add up to become a very beautiful Malana trek which one should not miss out.
Delhi
3 Hours Before Flight Time
Arrive at Delhi by international flight. A KVT representative will meet you at the airport and assist you to the vehicle. Later transfer to hotel. Afternoon start Delhi sightseeing. We proceed to Old Delhi and visit Jama Masjid – the largest mosque of Old Delhi built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan.
Later go for an exciting cycle rickshaw ride through lively thoroughfares and bustling alleyways of Old Delhi market rarely visited by typical tourists. Arrive at Khari Baoli and see Asia’s largest wholesale spice market. Our exploration continues as we drive past historic colonial landmarks, such as Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament House, and India Gate—a poignant memorial dedicated to soldiers of the First World War. After breakfast departure to Delhi Airport for flight to Kullu. Meeting on arrival and drive to Manali – a beautiful township nestled in the picturesque Beas River valley. NOTE: It is advisable to arrive a day earlier, which will help in better acclimatization.

Morning we visit the Hadimba Temple – it is an ancient pagoda-style cave temple which is surrounded by a beautiful cedar forest. The temple is dedicated to goddess Hadimba, a mythological character from the epic Mahabharata and wife of Pandhav brother Bhima.
Later we drive to Naggar (approx. 30mins drive), the former capital of Kullu Valley and starting point of our trek. At Naggar we visit Nicolas Roerich Art Gallery which houses numbers of rare paintings by the Russian painter.
After this we start our trek to the quaint traditional picturesque village of Rumsu, following a rough road. (Driving time: Approx. 30mins / Trekking time: 3 – 4 hrs) (Meals: Breakfast and Dinner)
This morning we start trekking to Chiklani Chanderkhani base, our next campsite for the night. The path is through dense forest of pine, deodar, and chestnut trees. On the path one can enjoy the scenic view of the Pir Panjal range and snowcapped peaks.
The open meadows en-route to the pass is carpeted with wildflowers in the summer months. (Trekking time: 4 – 5 hrs) (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
After an early breakfast we climb to the Chanderkhani pass and blessed with the magnificent views of the upper Malana Valley, the Ghalpo peaks in Lahaul as well as the snowcapped peaks rising above the Parvati Valley. The Malana Glacier and the major peaks of Dhauladhar range including Deo Tibba are the surrounding scenery that can take our breath away.
The Chandrakhani Pass (3660m) extends north for about 1 km along the ridge before winding along the east face of the ridge. We will take the higher trail to Nagruni continuing just below the crest of the ridge for another 2kms. Then we descend into the meadow of Nagruni which is known for its wild pheasants.(Trekking time: 5 – 6 hrs) (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
After breakfast we continue our trek to Malana. After an hour descends to the river bed, the trail continues along the river side with beautiful views and finally ascends gradually to Malana Village.
The trail continues on the west side of the valley on a long gradual ascent to Malana village. Set out from rest of the Kullu valley, Malana is an isolated village community with about 50 families. It has its own language, customs and laws and is governed by the village elders. (Trekking time: 4 – 5hrs) (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
Today we explore the village life and its rich culture and customs. Later we continue our trek to Rasol base. The trail climbs up through agricultural land with great village views. After reaching Rasol base we camp for the night. (Trekking time: 4 – 5 hrs) (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
In the morning our trek starts with a gradual ascend, followed by a steep ascent towards Kasol Pass (3260m). This section of trek is a bit harder and needs good physical condition to cross. From the pass the view of the valley is great. After spending some time at the pass we descend to Kasol, where we camp by the river. (Trekking time: 4 – 5 hrs) (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)
It is an easy downhill walk today to the Parvati Valley and up to the hot springs at Manikaran (Trek ends) Manikaran is a busy place of pilgrimage for both Hindus and Sikhs. The Sri Ramachandra temple and the Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurudwara are both interesting but the hot springs are the most interesting aspect of Manikaran.
After spending sometime exploring Manikaran, we drive to Kullu (1 – 1.5hrs drive). Upon arrival we will check in to the hotel. Evening is free to explore the local market. (Trekking time: 2 – 3hrs / Driving time: 1 – 1.5hrs) (Meals: Breakfast)
After breakfast we will be transferred to Bhuntar Airport for flight to Delhi. A KVT representative will meet you at the airport and assist you to the vehicle. Later transfer to hotel.
