Upon arrival check in to the hotel. Nestled amid evergreen hills that line the southernmost edge of Karnataka is the luscious Coorg region, gifted with emerald landscapes and hectares of plantations. The uneven terrain and cool climate make it a fantastic area for trekking, bird watching or lazily ambling down little-trodden paths winding around carpeted hills. (Meals: Breakfast )
Today we scale the Tadiandamol Peak. Nestled deep in the Western Ghats, the Tadiandamol Peak is the highest peak of Coorg, standing at a height of 1,748 meter. The trek is of moderate grade difficulty, starting with a gradual incline but getting steeper as you go further. Along the way, we will cross patches of dense forests so closely packed that the sunlight cannot penetrate even in the middle of the day. However, besides the occasional patches, the trail mostly passes through grasslands and meadows, which provide stunning views of the serene mountains. After the 15 km trek we return to our hotel by late afternoon. (Trekking Time: 6 – 7hrs / Meals: Breakfast & Packed Lunch)
After breakfast, we will drive to the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary (4 – 5hrs drive), a protected area and a tiger reserve situated in lush tropical forests of the Western Ghats, fed by the waters of river Bhadra. Upon arrival we check into our jungle lodge. The sanctuary consists of mostly moist and dry deciduous forests, with more than 120 species of trees. The sanctuary has a considerable number of tiger and leopard population and is home to other species like elephants, gaur, deer, bison, bear and many species of birds and reptiles. In the afternoon we explore the sanctuary with a boat safari along the forest edge and around the islands, revealing the diverse flora and fauna. Unique to Bhadra is the congregation of thousands of River Terns on some islands. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Early morning we head for a jeep safari through the sanctuary and explore the forest life. The jeep will take us through the rugged forest tracks as we try to spot various animals such as elephants, deer, gaur, bison, various reptiles and specially the elusive tiger and leopard. During the safari we will also get to see a number of birds that flock the forest. We return to the jungle lodge for breakfast and then drive to our next destination – Dandeli (4.5 to 5.5hrs drive). Upon arrival we check in to our wilderness camp and soak in the inimitable rush of untamed terrain – gorges, valleys, forests and swirling and frothing white water of the river Kali. (Meals: Breakfast & Dinner)
After breakfast we get ready for an adventurous day ahead. We start with white water rafting for a 12 km stretch (3 to 4 hrs) on river Kali. Surrounded by lush dense forests, the river has several grade 2 and grade 3 rapids that make the rafting experience exhilarating and memorable. After a morning full of excitement, we return to the camp for some rest. In the afternoon we head out for a Coracle, a traditional boat, ride on the river, spotting crocodiles, various species of birds and if we are lucky even animals getting a drink of water. Head back to the camp and call it a day. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Today we drive to Murudeshwar (3.5 to 4.5hrs drive), the holy beach town of Karnataka, and check into the hotel. In the afternoon we visit the Murudeshwar Temple dedicated to lord Shiva and a fine example of the Vijayanagar architecture.
