The beautiful hanging valley of Har Ki Doon, also known as Dev Bhoomi (the Valley of the Gods) nestles in the northwest corner of Garhwal, near the Satluj-Yamuna watershed.
Our enjoyable 9 days itinerary explores this little-known part of the Himalayas, trek across remote Himalayan villages, alpine meadows and glacier basins, while providing wonderful views of peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpunch & Blackpeak.
Delhi
3 Hours Before Flight Time
Arrive at Delhi by international flight. A KVT representative will meet you at the airport and assist you to the vehicle. Later we will be transferred to hotel. Afternoon start Delhi sightseeing. We proceed to Old Delhi and visit Jama Masjid – the largest mosque of Old Delhi built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Later go for an exciting cycle rickshaw ride through lively thoroughfares and bustling alleyways of Old Delhi market rarely visited by typical tourists. Arrive at Khari Baoli and see Asia’s largest wholesale spice market. Our exploration continues as we drive past historic colonial landmarks, such as Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament House, and India Gate—a poignant memorial dedicated to soldiers of the First World War. Early morning transfer to the railway station for train to Haridwar. Assistance on arrival at Haridwar railway station and later we will drive to Mussoorie (2.5 – 3.5hrs drive) through the winding roads of the Himalayas. Upon arrival at Mussoorie, check in to hotel. Rest of the time is free to relax or explore the town on your own. (Meals: Breakfast)
In the morning we leave Mussoorie and drive towards Sankri village. It is a small village which offers some shops and also the GMVN (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam) tourist rest house. One can start trekking from here or can take jeep to Taluka by jeep-able road. Sankri is a small scenic village perched in the Tons Valley with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks. We reach Sankri village and rest in the tents for the night. (Driving Time: 4.5 – 5.5 hrs / Meals: Breakfast & Dinner)
After having breakfast we start trekking towards Taluka our next campsite for the night. We trek through the dense forest with magnificent view of the mountains and the valley. Taluka village has a GMVN (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam) tourist rest house and Forest rest house. It is the starting point for the trek of Har Ki Doon valley. Taluka village is a small hamlet situated on the bank of River Supin and well known for “Pahari cottages” made of intricate wood, stone and mud as these are considered earthquake proof. We reach Taluka village and free time in the evening. (Trekking Time: 4 – 5 hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
This morning we have breakfast and leave for Osla village, a beautiful village on the way to Har-ki-doon valley and to reach Osla village one has to trek 13km from Taluka village. The trail goes to the left of the valley adjoining River Rupin and crossing through the forest of Chestnut, Walnut and Willow trees; one has to cross a stream on the way to reach the picturesque Osla village. Osla village has a temple which is dedicated to Duryodhana, Kaurav prince from Mahabharata. There is a GMVN (Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam) tourist rest house also available. Later we reach Osla village and rest in the tents. (Trekking Time: 6 – 7 hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Today we head towards Har Ki Doon valley which is shaped like hanging valley in the Garhwal Himalayas. The trek leads us to some terraced fields and to some isolated villages of India, where the life style is simple and untouched with civilization. The ascent to Har Ki Doon bestows with amazing views of the snow covered mountains and lush green fields. Once reaching the valley one is blessed with the beautiful meadows of Har Ki Doon with the towering Swargarohini peak (6252m) overlooking the valley. Now today we say good bye to Har Ki Doon valley and trek back to Seema village our next campsite for the night. The trek is an easy downhill walk which gives a good opportunity to do more photography of the surrounding view. Later reach Seema village and rest in the tent. (Trekking Time: 4 – 5 hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
In the morning finish breakfast and head towards another village that is called Datmi. This is also an easy descent to reach Datmi village which comes before Taluka Village. (Trekking Time: 4 – 5 hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Late morning transfer to Haridwar railway station for train to Delhi. Assistance on arrival at the railway station and transfer to hotel. (Meals: Breakfast)
Morning transfer to the airport for onward international flight back to home country. (Meals: Breakfast)
