Leh
3 Hours Before Flight Time
Arrive at Leh (3500m) by flight. The flight to Ladakh is an amazing experience as one flies over the imposing Himalayan range offering breathtaking views. KVT representative will meet you at the airport and will transfer you to the hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is free for acclimatization. In the evening, you may stroll around in the market area. (Meals: Nil)
After breakfast, we proceed for the sightseeing trip of Leh visiting Shanti Stupa, which is a Buddhist white-domed stupa (chorten) located on a hilltop in Chanspa. This is built by Japanese monks to promote world peace. The Shanti Stupa holds the relics of the Buddha at its base, enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama himself. Then we head to Spituk Monastery, located on a hilltop from where one can have an amazing view of the Indus River. It was founded in the 11th century. Moreover, the popular Spituk Festival, also known as Gustor Festival takes place here. After this, we move towards Phyang Monastery situated to the west of Leh. It was founded in the 16th century and the famous Phyang Festival, also known as Phyang Tseruk takes place here during the month of July / August. (Meals: Breakfast)
Today we drive towards Tsomoriri, en-route visiting Thiksey Monastery, located on top of the hill. The monastery resembles Potala Palace in Lhasa (Tibet). The 12 storied monastery complex is the largest monastery of Ladakh and contains stupas, statues, wall paintings, Thangkas and many other interesting things to watch. We continue with our drive and on the way, we stop at Chumathang and visit hot springs there. After this we drive towards our final destination Tsomoriri; en-route crossing Namshang La and the beautiful salt lake Kyagar Tso. We will spend the night at the village of Karzok which is the only human settlement and has a beautiful Karzok Monastery. (Meals: Breakfast & dinner / Driving time: 7 – 8 hrs)
Today we have full day to hike and explore the surroundings of Tsomoriri Lake, starting with the beautiful Karzok Monastery which belongs to Drukpa Lineage and is home to 70 monks. The monastery was founded in the 17th century and the Karzok Gustor Festival takes place here during the month of July/August. The monastery is located in Karzok village, where most of the inhabitants are Changpa nomads. At an altitude of 4572 m, Korzok is one of India’s highest permanent villages. Then rest of the day we can go hiking nearby the lake and enjoy the beauty of the Tsomoriri. (Meals: Breakfast & dinner)
After breakfast, we drive back to Leh en-route visiting Hemis Monastery – a Tibetan Buddhist monastery (gompa) of the Drukpa Lineage. It holds the distinction of being the biggest as well as the wealthiest monastery of Ladakh. The annual Hemis festival in which locals and the monks (Lamas) together celebrate the birth anniversary of honoring Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche) is also held at the courtyard of Hemis Monastery. Afterwards, we continue with our drive towards Leh, reach there and check-in at the hotel. (Meals: Breakfast / Driving time: 7 – 8 hrs)
In the morning, we head towards Nubra valley, which is also known as the valley of flowers. It is here that the Shyok River meets the Nubra River and makes a valley. The drive is quite interesting loaded with breathtaking views of the snow-peak mountain ranges and it takes us over the world’s highest motor-able pass of Khardung La (5602m). Here we stop for some time and then drive towards Nubra valley. We reach Nubra valley by late afternoon and check-in to the guest house. (Meals: Breakfast & dinner / Driving time: 4 – 5 hrs)
After breakfast, we get our cycles and start exploring the Nubra valley on two wheels. We start with Diskit Monastery – located on a hilltop, this is the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra valley and belongs to the Gelugpa sect (Yellow hat). After this, we cycle towards Hunder village which is famous for its sand dunes and Bacterian (double humped) Camel. An optional camel safari can be arranged there. After spending some time, we ride back to the hotel. (Meals: Breakfast & dinner / Cycling distance: approx. 50 kms)
This morning we have breakfast and drive back to Khardung La. From here we cycle towards Leh. The ride will be downhill all the way to Leh. Once we reach there, check-in at the hotel. The rest of the day will be free for us to explore the town. (Meals: Breakfast / Cycling distance: approx. 40 kms)
Today late morning we proceed for an exciting White Water Rafting for 2-3hrs on the mighty Indus River. After rafting, we return to our hotel and relax. The evening is free to explore the local market for last-minute shopping. (Meals: Breakfast)
Early morning we will be transferred to the airport for flight to the onward destination via Delhi. (Meals: Breakfast)
