Arrive in Kochi by international flight. A KVT representative will meet you at the airport and assist you to the vehicle. We head to Munnar, driving through the Kerala countryside, leaving the plains and climbing the Western Ghats. We reach Munnar and check into the hotel. Munnar is a famous colonial hill station of South India and known for its vast tea gardens. Rest of the time is free to explore the tea town on your own. (Meals: Nil)
A beautiful 1 hour drive through tea estates and plantations, takes us to the starting point of the Silent Valley trek. Our trek will start with a gradual walk on the plains of the tea plantations, followed by a gentle climb to the grasslands. The route offers beautiful views all around, mostly of the tea estates. The final stretch of our trek gets steeper as we leave the tea plantation behind and enter the grasslands to finally reach our camp (2,000m), where we spend two nights. (Driving Time: 1 hr / Trekking Time: 4 – 5 hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Today we trek to Meesapulimala Peak (2,630 m), the second highest peak in south India. From the camp, the trail ascends through the rough Shola grassland until we reach open ridges. We continue with our uphill climb along the ridge to reach the Meesapulimala Peak. From the top we witness the breathtaking panoramic views. After a break at the top, we will descend back to our camp. (Trekking Time: 4 – 5 hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
We trek through the thick forest land of the Silent Valley today, then walk though pine forests and along the streams of the Rhodo Valley. After this, we pass through grasslands and the Shola forest area where we stand a chance to spot giant squirrels, wild boar and the Indian Gaur. We reach Yellapetty Village by late afternoon and drive in jeeps for approx. 20 – 30 mins and then walk to our campsite at Oorkadu. (Trekking Time: 4 – 5 hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Today we have a fairly easy walk with some slight ups and downs as we trek to the beautiful village of Koviloor. Along the way we pass through the lush vegetable farming region of Pazhathottam. We also trek through the tribal village of Vattavada and get to observe the customs, art forms and natural remedies of the tribals. Continuing our trek we cross a small canal en-route, before reaching our campsite at Koviloor village. (Trekking Time: 3 – 4 hrs / Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
This is the last day of our trek as we head through the plantation ridge. From our vantage point we have a clear view of the beautiful Koviloor village. The entire area is known as the ‘market of India’ because of the amount of fruit and vegetables that are grown here. As we enjoy the scenery we meet farmers busy with their crops. Our trek comes to an end as we reach the road head where our vehicle is waiting for us. We board the vehicle and drive to Kochi. Upon arrival we check into hotel. In the evening we watch live Kathakali dance performance – the traditional dance form of Kerala. We also get an opportunity to watch the artists apply their makeup. (Trekking Time: Approx. 2.5 hrs / Driving Time: 4 – 5 hrs / Meals: Breakfast)
After breakfast you are transferred to Kochi airport for onward travel. (Meals: Breakfast)
